Strip seal expansion joints are a mechanical device suitable for sealing an elongated gap between two adjacent sections of road plates, providing continuous support for vehicles passing through the gap so that the road sections can adapt to temperature changes.
A single strip of elastomer-neoprene rubber is attached to adjacent road sections on both sides of the span by heavy edge beams under a specially designed profile. This setup ensures effective sealing for road expansion joints, accommodating the movement and expansion of the road plates.
The dilation compound system consists of an elastomeric reinforcement that is mechanically fixed between two steel edges and provides a superior waterproof sealing system. The durable design of the strip seal compensator effectively absorbs heavy vehicle traffic loads while sealing bridge expansion joints and structures, accommodating movements ranging from 0 mm to 80 mm and 0 mm to 130 mm.
Strip seal compensators can be manufactured to adapt to different field configurations and multidirectional movements.
These compensators are designed so that the neoprene gasket can be inserted before or after fixing the steel molds to the car body. Machined steel molds increase the sealing and reduce the manufacturing tolerance associated with the production of general steel molds.
The main functional requirement for the joint is to provide movement with a very low resistance or no resistance at all. Evaluation of joint movement is the first step of the design. The most famous and by far the most significant movement that the Joint should perform is a linear motion, expressed by opening and closing the joint. Often the joint is exposed to rotational and transverse motion and off-plane vertical displacement.
The expansion joint of the foot consists of two edge beams with attachment points and a neoprene closed element that is securely attached to the edge beam housing, which ensures waterproofing of the joint. For optimal road surface performance, edge beams should not exceed 80mm. This ensures a smooth traffic area while accommodating the maximum shrinkage of the deck when the joint is fully extended.
The edge beams protect the concrete adjacent to the bridge deck from damage caused by vehicle collisions and use a solid anchor system to transfer the vehicle’s load to the deck structure.
Strip seal expansion joints are made from neoprene for flexibility and sealing, and steel for structural strength and durability.
The Deevin Seal joint comprises elastomeric sealing glands. It is mechanically locked between 2 edge beams designed to ensure the best performance. These joints are designed for use in vehicle bridge structures, support heavy loads, and can effectively accommodate multi-directional movements, including horizontal shifting, vertical deflection, and rotational movements.
The end beam is made of hot rolled steel according to ASTM a-36 or ASTM a-588 grade or equivalent. The minimum section thickness is 10.5 mm across the entire cross-section, exceeding Mort & h requirements.

The ” V ” shape seal allows unrestricted expansion joint movement and resists long-term fatigue due to its inherent flexibility. Strip seals are made of a specially designed elastomeric material that forms a gland, covering the gap in a deck joint. The gland is securely fitted into a pair of rolled or extruded metal shapes, which are then anchored to the edges of the deck slabs.
It is used for sealing expansion joints in concrete roads, as well as in heavy areas subject to high traffic and high speed in multi-story car parks, stadiums, and other concrete structures. The continuous elastic sealing element of the Divin Tape sealing system is designed for exceptional tightness and durability. Neoprene seals, known for their long-lasting properties, have proven effective for over 25 years.
High-performance neoprene seals are enclosed in steel profiles to provide a fully waterproof system. Elastic sealing arteries are available in two standard sizes with movement capacities from 0 to 80 millimeters and 0 to 130 millimeters. It is the most popular and acceptable common system among bridge consultants and engineers all over the world.
